Don’t Forget The Lights

This was my last night in my home in Edinburgh before moving to the US. I wanted to record something. Something new, and fresh, and honest, before I left that place. I wanted to summarise my life up to that point. I wanted, somehow, to capture where I was at that time in a song. It was a farewell of sorts. It was me speaking to the ghosts of myself. The pasts that had been and the futures that could unspool. There are knowing references to a number of things. In the end, it is my fare thee well to a period of my life. It was the first take and it probably couldn’t have been any other way.

Ain’t Leaving

This one appeared on an earlier album. I’m not sure which, right now. But it was on something before this but on an electric guitar. I figured it was apt for a ‘fare thee well’ single. I have always loved this song. I can’t remember writing it. It reminds me of being content. Of being perfectly balanced between a comfortable present, a fine past, and a hopeful future. Only hope can let you trust that, while on the floor, a girl won’t stomp you.

There are bum notes because I am not a good guitar player, but I am nothing but particular about honesty and feeling.
